Speaking of Scooter...he's doing worlds better. This weekend a couple of the boys were home. Austin brought a friend home from UK (University of Kentucky) who just so happens that he met in college and is from MY small hometown! I know his family...okay, I trail off the subject A LOT. Hang with me here.
Anyways, Austin's bedroom is on the bottom level of the house (third level). There are steps going down to his room, which has another family room and it's own entrance. I keep the door shut since Eddy and I never go down there. I put a HUGE note up on the door that said KEEP DOOR SHUT! SCOOTER COULD FALL DOWN THE STAIRS.
Well.. Austin and his friend were going to be laid out all night (what I call partying and coming home late-not drinking and driving!) When they come in around 3,4,5 or when the sun is coming up, I surely didn't want them to forget and leave that door open. Of course I slept with one eye and one ear wide open. When they did come in...I'd wait for them to head there before I padded down my stairs to get to his stairs where I was happy to say the door was shut.
THEN....Austin has been driving my old mini...as in mini-van, and he had been bringing some stuff home since he's moving to a different apartment in a few weeks down in Lexington. I cook him bunches of meals to take back with him and I was happily cooking away when I heard THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP.  I ran out of the kitchen with my heart pounding to the open door and Scooter standing at the bottom. OMG....I might've said a few things that would've made the devil blush and it was on Sunday! Austin was so upset. But...Scooter was fine and he wasn't a bit scared. He continued to get around the house and back to his normal routine.
Another Scooter story...he loves car rides. He does sit in my lap (stop groaning and don't email me to tell me how dangerous it is because I'm still gonna do it.) He had his head out the window and loving it! We were going to get me a Diet Coke from Chik-fil-A. I drive a little red Fiat and we get a lot of looks in it. Naturally, when I pulled up to the people at Chik-fil-A, which they are so weird and stand there to take your order, they were all staring at me. I figured they were looking at my little car. Then the guy was a little reluctant to take my $2.07 before he asked me if Scooter's eyes were closed or missing. Then I realized they were all trying to figure out what was up with Scooter. Hahhaa!!!!

Here are a couple photos from the weekend. The She Shed is coming along and it was my mom's birthday! Don't you love that cake? It's from Nothing Bundt Cakes. It was delish!

Tuesday Coffee With Tonya and Weekly Giveaway!

Good morning, Y'all!!
Shoowweeee. I can't lie. I have to tell you that last week was one of the roughest weeks I've had in a long time. I'm one of those people who hold in stress. I wanted to make sure Scooter didn't scratch out his staples, so for seven nights I slept on the floor or we moved to the couch with him. He isn't comfortable sleeping in my bed anymore or being upstairs since he's been blind. Plus he likes being by his water bowl.
To make a long story longer (which I'm really good at), I didn't get much sleep but Scooter did. Add upon top of no sleep, taking care of Charlie and giving him his 25 pills a day for his various illnesses, making sure Scooter is eating and writing a book.....THEN....Scooter's eye started to ooze. I about had a full blown conniption. I might've acted ugly towards people I love because I was on edge. So much so that my mama had driven two hours to stay with me. She was here to take care of the dogs while Eddy took care of all the other stuff and I could write.
Well...Y'all! That didn't work. I still had to have my hand in every pot that was boiling. This meant, I still got zero rest and my body was pushed to it's limit. Luckily, Scooter's eye was normal and it wasn't frank blood.
I woke up on Thursday and I was so dizzy, nauseous, and practically out of my head that my family pulled an intervention! First, my sister took away all my electronics including my Apple Watch. Smart girl. They put me on bed rest for a couple of days because the stress of it all had just throw me for a loop. They were right. I needed to just rest.
Saturday, Eddy drove me and Scooter to the vet to get Scooter's stitches out. He'd lost two pounds in a week and needed some fluids. Fast forward to today, he's up and moving around. Actually, happy! He's rubbing, back to chewing his bones and he even smelled one of the stray kittens under the porch when the stray was trying to figure out if Scooter was going to chase her or not. I'm rested and back to writing. Life in the Kappes household is right back on track.

In the end, it was me that was more upset about Scooter and his new reality than he was. I can't thank y'all enough for all the emails and cards you've sent. I've read them all to Scooter. As you can see below, Scooter is looking and doing great!

In the first of a delectable new Southern-set baking cozy series, Sophia Cummings, pastry chef extraordinaire, must craft the perfect cake for an old friend’s wedding while sifting through the suspects in a murder. Bucolic Rumford, Kentucky has glowing fields of bluegrass, a fine selection of bourbons, and now a professional pastry chef. Broken-hearted Sophia Cummings has come home from New York City. She’s not there a minute before she’s charmed into making her high school friend Charlotte’s wedding cake. The kitchen at the Rumford Country Club seems perfect until Chef Emile’s body is discovered, sprawled near the stove, a cast iron skillet on the floor close by. With one look at the shiny, new frying pan, Sophia knows it’s not Emile’s. She offers her knowledge to Sheriff Carter and her talents to Evelyn, the manager, who needs an interim chef. The mood in the country club is grim: Emile’s peppery personality had burned members and staff alike. Sophia wonders which one of them burned him?

Happy Tuesday!!
Y'all have really been so kind and awesome with all the emails and messages about Scooter. I'm not posting any photos of him with his stitches because some of you might get a little woozy. I have to admit that no amount of preparing myself with looking at other pups who had the surgery, I was still not prepared. Though I'd like to say he's is perfect and free of pain, I can't. He's in pain from being cut on and we are taking it day by day. He is eating and as you can see, I've had to put up the leg gate so Charlie can't get to Scooter's food.

His spirits were so lifted on Saturday when the boys came home (photo minus Brady because he had to go to work) and Aunt Tracy came over. The boys were a little upset and for sure weren't prepared. I will put together a photo album of Scooter's progress in next week's newsletter where you can actually click the link if you do want to see what he looks like and continued progress. I've documented it all and have posted to a few sites to help others in our situation.

Oh! Cody turned 25!!! We are just so shocked!! He is such a great boy. He goes to a private college where he played college soccer as the goalie. That was a lot of fun watching him. He even had a trip to Spain. He will graduate in December in a business degree and we couldn't be more proud.

Are you on Instagram??? I post daily photos of the dogs and the rest of my life....Come on by and join me!! Click here>>>>https://www.instagram.com/tonyakappes/

Eddy worked hard over the weekend on the SHE SHED. Hahhaa!! It's literally under tin roof now, but I took this over the weekend. He's truly talented and I can't wait until you see the finished product.
I'll be updating you next week.

Look at these kittens!! Now they will eat while I'm sitting there. They will also let me pat down their backs. They are so cute!!!

Be sure to pre-order the third book in the Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series.

Tuesday Coffee with Tonya and Weekly Giveaway

Good morning!
Okay...do y'all remember in an earlier newsletter in like May, I said that this summer was going to be quiet because all my boys were out of the house? Apparently, I lied. I've seen my kiddos more this summer than when they lived here.
Over the weekend three were home and brought a few more with them. I have to say that I loved cooking for that many again and hearing them laugh and cut up. It's nice the boys like to bring friends home.
And Eddy...he just can't relax. He's decided to build me a She Shed! I was cracking up because he and Austin were discussing all sorts of plans. Austin is studying to be an architect and he was excited. He even drew his image of my She Shed with me inside.

I'll keep you posted on the progress of my She Shed....
Also over the past few days we've had a mean game of Scrabble brewing on our kitchen chalk board. It's not your traditional Scrabble game and it was a perfect way for my kiddos to play and actually think about spelling. What I did was put magnets on the back of Scrabble tiles. In a small bucket, I put the tiles next to the board with the rules written on a piece of paper.

You get to play twice a day. You pick seven tiles out of the bucket and make a word. You put the left over tiles back in the bucket and tally your score for your word. The second turn you pick seven new tiles. Since Eddy and I had a game going and the boys came home, Eddy's words started getting bigger over the weekend. I knew one of those boys were helping him but no one has confessed, not even Eddy!
I finished up the weekend getting out the birthday mail to my readers who celebrate in July! If you aren't on my MAILBOX LOVE list, head on over to my website and sign up under the FRONT PORCH SITTIN' TAB.

The kittens are starting to trust me. I'm still feeding them and they are so cute. Charlie is getting his fair share of chasing them on his three legs.

We also had a Scooter appointment. It's become apparent that Scooter has lost all vision in the eye we were hoping would recover. At this point, we are treating with four medication just so they won't get infected and have decided to have his eyes removed on Thursday. The shock and sadness has swept over me like a cold, wet blanket. I had held onto the little bit of hope that he'd gain some sight back. It's been a very hard decision, but I'm told that this will help relieve the pain he's been having along with the inflammation. I've been making myself look at dogs with the same disease and the same treatment so I won't be shocked to see him with no eyes. I'm crying just writing this. Please say a little pray for my little sugar baby when you wake up on Thursday. I'll keep y'all posted.

Tuesday Coffee With Tonya and Weekly Giveaway!

Happy Tuesdee! That's how we say Tuesday where I'm from.
Let me tell you....we need a hillbilly Siri! Or the gal in the hands free phone thingy in my car needs to understand me better. I'll say to call Eddy. She says "did you say call Penny? Did you say call Susie?" I end up going through my entire contact list. I thought I got smart and put Eddy's number under husband. Well...it appears that I wasn't so smart after all. She replied, "did you say call David." Dang....
That's just the tip of my last week...
Y'all aren't going to believe this. I'm not joking and hand to heaven, there was ANOTHER SNAKE!! Didn't I tell y'all last week that I could hear my Papaw say that if there was one there was more...mmmhmmmm. Do you think he was talking to me from the great beyond? Anyways, this one was bigger and fatter!
I have to say it was hilarious watching Eddy wrangle the thing into the garbage can to toss back into the creek. He was dancing around and I was shouting instructions out the slider door. He didn't appreciate that too much, but I was much better at giving directions than wranglin' it.

Hahhaa!! Look at Eddy! I was dying laughing, but sure to keep my distance.
As if that wasn't enough....that same day, there was a big snapper turtle in the yard! What in the world is going on??

You guessed it...it right into the creek too. I've got me my own little zoo back there. I won't let Eddy kill them. But...if I see another snake...I might just let him.

A few days went by and we were all muddlin' right along until I heard some rustling underneath my back deck.

You guessed it! Another critter...well FIVE! A mama cat and 4 kittens!!! Stop my beating heart. I rushed out and got me some cat food. I ain't gonna say that Eddy is too happy about it because he's not. But look at that little face....Look at this gorgeous butterfly that I snapped a quick photo of....

It's crazy around here. I do have an pet rescue who will take the kittens, if I can get them. It's the funniest thing because the mama will lay in the grass and look at Scooter like what's up with that dog. Can't he see me here? He's yet to sniff them, but they sure are cute!!!

I took this picture of Charlie and included it here just because he's cute.
Tomorrow is 4th of July! How fun!! I'm excited to be hosting a small get together. I hope y'all have a wonderful holiday! Cheers to a great week and less animals!
