Visit Cottonwood! Recipe! Reader Event and more!

Hi-do. I’m Nanette and I’d like to welcome you to The Tattered Book and Inn. We are a full service Inn. Come on in. This here is Purdy. She’s the Inn’s cat. If you are allergic, too bad or you can waddle on down to Dixon’s Foodtown and get you some medicine.

Over yonder in that room you’ll find refreshments and snacks that are stocked all day long. If you need something you can ask Malina over there behind the desk, really behind that book. Darn girl always has her head stuck in a book, which reminds me.

You’ll find your room has its own library. If you don’t see anything that strikes your fancy, you can mosey on over to the library. Marcy Carver is our librarian and she’s a little bit of a busy-body. Which reminds me, where are you from? What do you do for a living?

Anyways, you can have breakfast in your room or you can come on down to our communal dinning room. If nothing I’ve fixin’ makes your mouth water, then you just go right on next door to Ben’s Diner. He’s always got some specials that you might want to noodle around.

Now go on. You probably want to get in a nap or freshin’ up. I hear y’all are meetin’ down on the courthouse lawn to start your tour of Cottonwood. You better make sure you’ve got your ears turned on. From what I heard, now it’s just hearsay, but I heard they were offering some fun giveaways.

Where’d you say you were from again? Tell me in the comments and be entered to win an ebook copy of Fixin' To Die. If you already have it, we can gift it to a friend of your choice.

You can go on a real virtual tour of Cottonwood and get to know all the fun characters along with the cozy community by visiting the new Kenni Lowry Mystery Series website by clicking here!

YUMMY!!! My four boys were home from college over the Christmas break and they always put in requests for suppers while they are home. This is one of our favorites!! Yes...I put pickles on top because they are so goooooooood!

Grab the recipe here!

The two dames, cozy mystery authors Duffy Brown and Tonya Kappes Books, invite you for a weekend of murder and mystery...sorta....

Join us October 12-13 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The weekend will kick off with a fun pizza party and mystery right at the hotel. The next morning, we'll enjoy a coffee and breakfast at the complimentary hotel bar before we are off to the Star of Knoxville Riverboat.

Boarding the riverboat at 12:30 PM EST and cruise at 1:00 PM EST. On the cruise, you'll be served an amazing southern style dinner (or as nonsoutherners call it lunch), while participating in a murder mystery theater event where you might be the killer or worse...the victim!

Also while on the cruise, you'll be able to purchase books by Tonya and Duffy.

Sadly, the weekend will end after the cruise. BUT don't fear...Duffy and Tonya are working on another TRAIN for 2019, unless Tonya can find an airplane for cheap because she's been spouting Two Dames take it to the land, sea and air!

REGISTRATION OPENS JANUARY 1ST, 2018!! $50/person + hotel.

Easter and the Derby?

Okay..
Easter is in April and the Derby is in May! But here in Kentucky and the south, we don't have Easter without the Derby pie!

Kentucky Derby Pie
(from my mama~Linda Lowry)
My mama’s Derby Pie is smack your mama good! It’s a southern pie with walnuts and chocolate chips. You can use pecans in substitute for the walnuts, but I really like my walnuts!

Ingredients: ½ cup melted butter
1 cup sugar ½ cup flour 2 beaten eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract ¾ cup Walnuts or pecans (your choice not both!) ¾ cup chocolate chips (or more if you really want it gooey!)
Directions Mix in the order that’s written under the ingredients. This is very important. Pour the mixture into an unbaked 9 inch pie shell. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.

Enjoy this amazing video of an artist decorating eggs.

Happy happy Easter!!

And they're off....

WOW! I had a super busy weekend. It was filled with fun and fear!  On Saturday our son Austin was in charge of his fraternity alumni/parent weekend at Keeneland Racetrack.

Now...y'all know I love horse racing and Keeneland. I grew up going to the races and Keeneland is literally fifteen minutes from my childhood home. Friends of my family started Keeneland and still own it today. So...I'm pretty at home there.
It was opening weekend, which meant there were probably around 40k people there. 40,000 PEOPLE!!!

(These little jockeys are so cute. They have the names of winners on their little boards.)
The food line is 1 1/2 hours long to stand in...not to mention the bathroom. You don't think that sounds like fun?? It is! We get there and tailgate on "The Hill." It's the cute name for the grassy area on Keeneland where you can tailgate all day long and never see a horse. But it's the thrill and inside that I love.
There are two races an hour so there's …

How To Get Reviews For Your Novel

I don't care what anyone says....reviews are important.

I hear a lot of authors that say they don't rely on reviews to read their books and they are full of it. That is why we have reviews and review sites like Goodreads, right?

I'm not saying that you have to read the reviews your novel gets, but reviews are important. They will help you market your novel, especially if you are self published.

Nowadays, more and more review sites are accepting self published authors to review. So you better be sure that your book is the best it can possibly be or you won't get the reviews you want.

Regardless, you need reviews.

Here are a few ways I get reviews for my novels:

1) Goodreads giveaways.

Taking advantage of the giveaway on Goodreads is a great way to get reviews. I offer three copies of my book when it's released using this Goodreads feature. I hold the giveaway for a month and get thousands of requests.

Once Goodreads announces the three winners, I send them a book co…
