way, my name is Gert. Gert Hobson. It’s nice to meet you.

Those giggling girls over there are a wedding party. The one with the bride sash on is obviously the bride. They aren't from here, but she wanted a southern wedding. That's something we do great around here....fun weddings. I'm excited to be catering their coffee bar. It's a thing now.

You recognize her as who? She's the daughter of Tom Moon? As in Tom Moon the owner of the huge coffee chain Moonbucks?

I'm sorry. I'm not going to be able to give you that sample after all. In fact, I'm going to have to close. Something just came up. I'm finally going to get the chance to confront Tom Moon. About? 

Well...years ago Tom Moon stole my recipe for my special coffee blend that you know as the Moonbucks special roast. I can't wait to get my claws into him.....

What did my book signing and Dolly Parton have to do with each other?

A few months ago, I was lucky enough to be asked to come to White Pines Bookstore for a Mystery Day. It is located in White Pines, TN. The event was over the weekend and it was sooooo much fun! One of the coordinators had made a special June Heal cake! If you've read The Magical Cures Mystery Series, you'll know how much this cake means to June and her sanity!!! Isn't it awesome??? There were 7 Kappes Krew Street members there too!! All of them had to drive an hour or more to come and I couldn't be more honored. While I was in Tennessee, I'd rented a cabin really in the woods! I'd gotten food and didn't need to leave for a few days. I didn't spend the time writing, I worked on my production schedule and content schedule. I had gotten a lot done that requires the time. This is really the hardest part of being a full time writer. Making sure all the business stuff is done. I did take some hikes and just so happened to walk into a clearing where there was this little cemetery that was completely hidden, but had the most spectacular view of the mountains. In fact, I went twice to visit. It was really nice.  Then...as a writer....I did a little research when I got back. The stones had carved dates on them by in the mid 1800's. The two family names were Parton and Thompson...as in DOLLY!!! Actually, Dolly's childhood home was a stones throw away from my little one room cabin I'd rented!  It was so neat. I had no idea. I was staying on her childhood road deeeeeeeeeeeeep in the woods. I mean....deep!!!!  Did you like my little story? There’s more! While I'm chatting, the neighborhood kids are starting to walk to school. I really can't believe how fast time has flown. In fact, Austin started his senior year at UK and Jack started his junior year at UC. Unbelievable how old EDDY is! Haha! We had a family get together and I mean aunts, uncles, cousins, cousins once removed, second cousins...and three of my boys went to Nicholasville with us.

Over the course of our time spent together this weekend, I asked all four boys what they considered their childhood home.  Every single one said a house that we ONLY lived in for only FOUR years! We've been in our current house for almost 8 now. We moved here because they went to the neighborhood school and I was in six car pools.  They said it was because they had long nights outside running around and playing. When we moved to our current house, they were practically driving and then off they went....

Which brings me to yesterday...Eddy and I have been thinking about downsizing. Of course I LOVE my she-shed and my pool, but I hate cleaning this big house and five bedrooms.... So we went house hunting. We want something very secluded and private. We will add a pool and that at the new place. LOW AND BEHOLD... We found a gem! Four acres of beautiful country, creek, and pond plus cute little bridges and look at this guard rail on the road with the awesome flower box!!! Those are TREES growing in the flower box. This is one of the many bridges to the property.  Y'all! I literally went by the house so much. We would look at one and then go back to this one. The house was built in 1910! It's a small white clapboard house and it had yet to be listed on the MLS.  Y'all!!! Again...I drove by the house so much, the OWNER came out and stopped me the last time! He said he's been seeing a little red Fiat driving by so he though he'd come out.

If you think this cute guardrail is adorable...you should've seen the rest of the property! Amazing...until...I saw the house. Oh my stars! Yeah..um..NO!  There were mannequins with wedding dresses on. I was a tad bit creeped out but really there was so much work to be done, that I'm not into that. I guess we will press on and probably end up building something on some property to fit our needs.

We spent the rest of what Labor Day we had left enjoying our pool. It ain't so bad here. I guess I'll just keep swiffering! Rowena sure did know how to spend her day off! I also was tweaking the plot for Stamped Out. I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE creating new series and I think the Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery is going to be really fun! I hope you preorder your copy!

Seriously...curse?
Meh, I'm not scared...

especially when there is a lot of money to be found. At least that's what the treasure hunter staying at my campground had said during his time to tell a story over the campfire. Now, I know most stories told in the dark over a few scorched s'mores and a roaring flame were considered tall tales, but not the legend of John Swift and his silver mine. 

Legend has it, over 400 years ago an Englishman by the name of John Swift had been a sea captain with trades when the English were taking over the land. John Swift was so mad at how his people had robed the land that he started to counterfeit the English crown and giving it to the people of the land. It just so happens, John Swift ventured into our very own Daniel Boone National Forest where he hide his operations and not only buried much of the coins, but found silver. After being put in jail for his criminal ways, his journals were left behind along with his maps and still today treasure hunters flock Kentucky to look for the treasure.

Only....few have come away without something going horribly wrong. I'm not scared. Me and the Laundry Club ladies want our own crack at finding the treasure and that means packing up my campervan and heading to a primitive campground without electricity or cell phone service.

We aren't scared! After all, we are being accompanied by one of the best treasure hunters who knows exactly what he's doing.

At least I thought he did until he fell off a cliff and died. Unfortunately, there's no way out because a big rain has flooded the roads and it appears as if we are in a little pickle. I was beginning to think we were having just a little bad luck until another person turned up dead.

Now I'm wondering if it's the John Swift curse or someone trying to scare us....

Honestly, I can't believe that I have another series coming out. Truthfully, the series started out soooooo different then what it has ended up.

A few months ago a local town had gone up for sale. Yes! A town for sale. I was so intrigued by it and thought it would be a lot of fun for a widow to buy the town and her occupation...a mail carrier...why not??

For months I played with different plots and characters, but my mail carrier, Bernadette Davis, wasn't having any part of it.

Then it hit me. She just needs to be a widow, a mail carrier, and have an adult son in a small town. There isn't anything particularly interesting to people outside of the town like my other series, but it's the characters and town itself that will be the big draw for my readers.

It doesn't hurt that a nursing home is on Bernadette's route which is home to a few savvy elderlies.

Once I got all of that established, the story just poured and felt like it was natural. I have to say that I'm beyond thrilled with it and I can't wait to share Bernadette with the cozy mystery reader world!
