Generally we southerns like to sweep family issues under the rug until they rear their ugly head and want a little attention, then we just slap a little lipstick on it or a monogramed necklace and call it good.
But I just can't keep this issue under the rug. It doesn't look pretty in lipstick. And it refuses to wear a necklace....
My family. . .here it goes. . .we are serial watcher.
SHOOOWEEE!! That felt good getting that off my chest!
We watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have four boys and they all watch different things on each of those online streaming services. Most suppertime talk is them telling me about the new series they found or new movie they watched the night before.
They don't watch TV during the day, but they do watch the online streaming at night. Since my Eddy and I are working during the day, it was useless for us to continue with Direct TV so we got rid of it!
My boys were so upset! I asked them when do you watch Direct TV and all of them replied "NEVER." I found it so interesting that their generation doesn't remember a time without cable TV. I clearly remember when cable was installed in my childhood home and I clearly remember the first Disney show and the first video premiere on Mtv!
Needless to say, we haven't missed a bit of cable or Direct TV, but we sure are stuck on watching series of TV shows. I love that my boys are watching the old 90210 shows from the eighty and nineties and old movies I grew up watching. I especially love when one of them recommend a series for me.
Lat week my Austin asked if I watched Longmire because it was a show that would go right along with my writing. NOW...I'm on season two! ADDICTED!!!! I can not only watch ONE episode, I watch THREE in one sitting!!!

My daughter is a streamer. Her and her bff watch Netflix together all the time. Right now its Greys anatomy. Her bf mom also did away with cable and just does Hulu and Netflix. My boy the youngest is a YouTube watcher. Smh. I really don't understand that. I am still a cable watcher.
ReplyDeleteMy 3 youngest kids are a little younger so Direct TV would be greatly missed. My oldest 2 daughters are more into web shows but they also watch stuff like The Walking Dead but they are in college and married and don't live at home (Yes it's sad). I had 2 sets of kids 10 years apart which apparently isn't that common with people I know. My 3 youngest consist of 10 year old twins boys and my youngest daughter is 11. The boys are into the Star Wars series,a series animated series on Disney channels. This whole boy thing is new to me and I love it. I watch shows with them that I never knew existed. Me and my youngest daughter, Annabelle, watch The Voice. She loves it. As they get older, I'm sure there taste in shows will change. They have already moved on from, Octonauts to Star Wars series and Yukonmen, a reality show about people in Alaska. Annabelle is also into Full House, for some reason. Yes we are probably watchers but the kids all have sports and other activities so we don't get much TV time and record the shows they like.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear another southern family sweeps family issues under the rug. I think all my Kids were born knowing what NOT to talk about. My youngest just turned ten and they are experts. Hehe
DeleteWe do this ALL the time in my house. Right now we are watching Criminal Minds. I never thought I would like it(much like Son's of Anarchy and Walking Dead that I have binge watched before it). We just started season 2 last night and I am grateful for the binge watching at season finale time. Instead of waiting months to find out the fate of favorite characters it's mere seconds away lol.

We ditched the cable as well, and right now I have been catching up on Bob's Burgers and I have been waiting to watch Longmire until my husband can watch it with me. I would love to win an audio book too!
ReplyDeleteWe also got rid of cable about 2 years ago. Haven't missed it at all. The kids love being able to watch what they want, when they want. I just discovered a show called Defiance. It it awesome but unfortunately it was cancelled after three seasons.

ReplyDeleteI am a huge binge watcher. I love British shows so I am addicted to most everything on Acorn. We really need to get rid of Dish but my husband loves his football and I love those Hallmark movies. One day we'll just rip off the band-aid and do it. Shoot, with the money we'll save, my husband could go see a game or two in person. And of course, there would be more money for buying books. :)
