As an author, reviews are very important to my career. I'm not talking about having reviews just so we can break the algorithms of Amazon (it's rumored that if an author has at least 50 reviews on a book, Amazon algorithms promotes the book). I'm talking about real and honest reviews.
I write fun and light hearted mysteries along with southern romance novels. Each one of those are based around real women with real lives. I know that some of the mysteries are paranormal, but none the less, the women in those mysteries can be related to. The heroines in my romance novels are definitely someone each of us can relate to.
Some of you might like my mysteries so much more than you like my romances, but each and every review is so important to me as the author, not me as a USA TODAY Bestselling author. I want each one of my novels to touch a reader in such a way that they want to shout to the world how much my novel helped them escape out of their daily lives.
There is no right or wrong way to review a novel. There isn't a limit on words. But I want to know if you do review? Where do you review? Do you read reviews?

I don't usually write reviews for books. I do read reviews, but I don't trust them very much. Most of the reviews are just so overwhelmingly positive that I have a hard time relying on them for an honest evaluation of the book. I think bloggers probably feel somewhat obligated to give a positive review or they do it because it's easier than actually critiquing the book. So I take my book reviews with a grain of salt.
ReplyDeleteI leave reviews for all books I read. I post on Amazon, goodreads, FB sometimes on B&N. On occasion I read other people's review.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten better about leaving reviews. I try to remember to leave them for every book I read. I put them on Amazon. If I've never read the author before I will read reviews.
ReplyDeleteI review every book I read. Either on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI do leave reviews! Usually on Amazon,B&N and Good Reads. As far as reading reviews ... I do read them sometimes but I have learned that everyone likes different things so I don't pay TOO much attention to them.

I do leave reviews on Amazon and Good reads. I admit that I too was uncomfortable with leaving a review at first. Then I thought this is how I felt about the book and how it made me feel. I do read reviews just so that I can decide on if it is a book that I would like.
ReplyDeleteI write reviews on Goodreads and I have started to wrote them on Amazon also. I'm not very good at writing them but I try.

ReplyDeleteI write reviews on some of the books I read. I do this on Amazon and Goodreads. I only leave good reviews.

I read reviews a lot and sometimes will review a book if it's from an author I like and I've enjoyed the book. Typically I leave these reviews on amazon or goodreads.
ReplyDeleteI do leave reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. I understand how much it means to the author and I want to do everything I can to help them.
ReplyDeleteI reall do make an effort to review books after learning how important it is for the writer.
ReplyDeleteI don't always leave reviews - but I'm trying to do so more often.
ReplyDeleteI write relatively lengthy reviews for a review website, but my personal reviews are often times much shorter and usually posted to Goodreads and sometimes Amazon. I don't review everything I read but am trying to do more and more. I read reviews but pay little attention to the star ratings. Thank you so much for the chance to win. Dmskrug3(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI used to work in a bookstore. I was constantly giving customers verbal reviews on books. Since leaving that work I still do that. I have found that I tend to pay more attention to readers reviews than ratings.
ReplyDeleteI have been posting reviews on Goodreads and Amazon since understanding how important they are to writers. Thanks so much for the giveaway Tonya.

Since I've started following cozy authors, I found out how important reviews are, so I now write them for every book I read (started a couple of years ago). I try to be honest and fair. I leave them on Goodreads, Amazon and B&N. I do read some reviews but make my own decisions, I'm weird I usually read the 3 star, they give me a reason why they didn't like it and it's easier to figure out if it is something that would bug me or not.
ReplyDeleteYes I do leave reviews, usually on Amazon and Goodreads..and occasionally on the authors facebook page when they are promoting the book.. I have found out tho that when I leave a review thru my kindle fire from the end of the book..it never showed up anywhere so I have lost about 100 book reviews..Amazon said the would look into it and restore them but that never happened.. so now I do it directly on the sights... I do read others when looking at a book but it doesn't make me not buy the book..everyone has different tastes.. thanks for the chance for more"book money" lol happy Easter.

ReplyDeleteI haven't left any reviews yet, but I intend to start. I now realize how important they are to an author since following authors on Facebook. I do read reviews sometimes, but that doesn't stop me from buying the book.
ReplyDeleteI review everything I read on Goodreads and now Amazon. I post those reviews in Fb and share to several of the groups I am in. Thanks to my friends on Fb I learned how to do all of this with their directions and helping hand. doward1952@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI review a majority of the books I read (a make a point to write and post reviews for books written by my favorite authors. I post my reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, B&N, Books-a-Million and Facebook. I do read reviews if the author is new to me before purchasing a book and/or if it is in a genre that I'm not particularly fond of.
